India 2016, Ep. 2: “Regal Jaipur”

Day 4:

Woke, had breakfast, then departed for Jaipur. Visited Amer/Amber Fort–which was amazing, and saw Jal Mahal–a palace in a lake–from the coast. Checked into the hotel, freshened up a little, and will go out for sight seeing a bit and dinner.

Researched a couple places not in the itinerary and asked my guide and driver to go to them today /tomorrow. They went against that but took me to a Ganesh Temple that is at the top of a small mountain. The climb up very steep steps was vigorous but fun, and the views were amazing. I’m glad the guide suggested otherwise, as it was a phenomenal view of Jaipur. Watched the sunset over the hill, then went into the temple and went on the roof to see behind another panoramic view.
After that, we drove to a restaurant called Raj Mahal, which was under a hotel called the Glitz, and they had live music and traditional dancing. I asked for authentic Rajisthani food, and they served me a dish called Papad Mangori, which wasn’t on the menu. It was delicious.

Day 5:

I woke up. Last night I left the AC on max because I saw a little lizard in my room, and I thought if they are cold blooded and I make it cold, he’s less likely to bother me.

Today was fun!
Had a really basic breakfast, went to the Albert Hall on the way to the new all-marble Birla Mandir Temple, then saw Hawa Mahal, the City Palace, and some local jeweler factory. Rested a bit after lunch (veg thali), then saw Paana Meena Ka Kund (step well), Jaigarh fort, Naragarh Fort, and watched the sunset while chatting at a hilltop restaurant right near by which overlooked the other side of the hill that we saw from yesterday. Then back to the hotel (I accidentally left my phone in the room during the evening stretch), and dinner at the rooftop hotel restaurant (Malai Kofta).
